Dan Masiga is an infectious diseases scientist with a strong commitment to research and building capacity for reduce the impact of vector-borne diseases. He graduated from the University of Nairobi (Biochemistry and Zoology), University College London (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and University of Bristol, UK (Molecular Parasitology). He got more engaged in genetics of parasites during his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow in UK. He focuses on creating knowledge and technologies for the sustainable control of infectious diseases that are spread by arthropods (e.g. mosquitoes, ticks, and sand flies), and has contributed to building capacity in bioinformatics through the African Society for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and as lead of the Eastern Africa Network for Bioinformatics Training (EANBiT), and the H3ABioNet node at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe). Prior to joining icipe, Dan was a lecturer at Kenyatta University, but his first appointment was at the Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute. He is grateful for the opportunities given to him at the institutions where he has studied and worked.
