Prof. Suhaila Hashim, an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology at Pwani University, is a distinguished academic and researcher dedicated to advancing science and education. Currently serving as the Manager of the Pwani University Biosciences Research Centre (PUBReC), her research focuses on the industrial application of microbial enzymes, the valorization of surplus agro-industrial biomass, and the exploration of microbial diversity in unique ecological ecosystems.
As a Co-Principal Investigator for the Eastern Africa Network for Bioinformatics Training (EANBiT), Prof. Hashim plays a pivotal role in supporting and coordinating the MSc. Bioinformatics program at Pwani University under the DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship program. Her commitment to education and mentorship extends beyond academia, as she actively serves on the Boards of Management for two high schools in Mombasa, championing educational development. With over eight years of leadership experience as Chair of the Department and two three-year terms as a Board member of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, Prof. Hashim exemplifies a blend of administrative acumen, research expertise, and a deep passion for capacity building and mentorship.
