Founder, Black Women in Computational Biology Network (BWCB)
Jenea Adams is a PhD Candidate in Genomics and Computational Biology at the University of Pennsylvania working in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine. She's also a dual MA candidate in Statistics and Data Science at The Wharton School. Her research centers computational methods for splicing detection and quantification to analyze pediatric transcriptome data in AML patients and other hematological pathologies. She's excited about the therapeutic potential that the RNA world has yet to tap into and looks forward to post-PhD opportunities in that sector.
In January 2020 she started the Black Women in Computational Biology Network, which is now a 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to accelerate opportunity at the intersection of biology, math, and computer science for Black women globally. BWCB has 300+ members from over 20 countries who convene within an online networking platform and community for Black women working and interested in the field. In addition to #BlackInCompBio Seminars, networking events, socials, and a space for members to develop professionally. Jenea is also the co-host of the CompBio Cafe podcast, BWCB's newest venture to "brew" up fresh perspectives in the CompBio world through audio storytelling.
