Alex Kandie is a seasoned communication expert with over a decade of experience translating complex ideas into compelling narratives that spark action. Currently holding the role of Senior Communication Officer at the Science for Africa Foundation, he is passionate about making science accessible, relatable, and impactful—especially in Africa.

His career spans high-level communication roles across leading development organisations including Gatsby Africa, Kenya Markets Trust, and the Centre for Health Solutions–Kenya. Through these roles, Alex has led the design and execution of communication strategies, developed engaging multimedia content, supported scientists across agriculture, health, and climate change sectors, and amplified voices driving African-led innovation.

Beyond strategy, Alex is a storyteller at heart. He has authored a teen novella, edited a careers encyclopaedia for youth, and led the communication of milestone research including Kenya’s national TB prevalence survey. He also played a key editorial role in the publication of BOMA: Behind the Grass Curtain, a historical adventure novel.

From live storytelling events and literary festivals to policy dialogues and digital campaigns, Alex brings a versatile, audience-centred approach to science communication. His mission is to close the gap between evidence and action, and to inspire a new generation of African scientists and storytellers to do the same.

When he’s not championing research, Alex enjoys photography, cycling, exploring nature, and building creative projects that blend design with impact.
